Below are some common questions and answers around our jewellery designs, and purchasing engagement rings and wedding rings online or instore. If any of your questions remain unanswered, please contact us.

DO YOU CARRY OUT REPAIRS ON JEWELLERY?
Our team of in-house jewellers specialize in bespoke jewellery design and manufacture, remodeling and restoration of fine jewellery. We can only provide jewellery repair services for jewellery purchased from our store. Our workshop is at capacity with the amount of bespoke and remodeling work so we are unable to take in repairs on other jewellery.
WHAT IF THE RING IS THE WRONG SIZE?
Don’t worry. We will arrange for it to be resized by one of our experienced jewellers so it fits perfectly. Remember that there are many reasons for your finger size changing such as aging, climate and weight changes. We recommend that you wait a couple of days to double check that the ring still doesn’t fit. Also, let us know if you’re planning to lose weight as some rings cannot be resized easily. Please note that your warranty will be voided if the ring is resized by jewellers other than The Village Goldsmith.

HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE TO MAKE MY PIECE?
It will take approximately 3 - 6 weeks to handcraft your piece. However if you have an urgent request we will do everything possible to accommodate you. For in stock items that do not require sizing we will notify you of the timeframes. In most cases if the item does not require resizing, it will be shipped to you on the next working day.

WHY CAN'T YOU MAKE THE DIAMOND WITHOUT CLAWS, AND FREE OF CONSTRAINT?
We are working on it....watch this space!! Diamonds need to be either held in with claws or tension set to ensure they do not fall out during normal wear.
WHAT ARE HEARTS AND ARROWS IN DIAMONDS? WHY DOES A DIAMOND HAVE HEARTS AND ARROWS?
Hearts and arrows are what can be seen in a diamond through a special viewing machine. Essentially they reflect excellent symmetry but don’t always necessarily reflect a well cut diamond. We first recommend looking for a diamond with a high cut grade then, in many cases, the symmetry will also be very good which will allow you to see hearts and arrows.
HOW MUCH SHOULD I BE SPENDING ON AN ENGAGEMENT RING?
It is entirely up to you and what you can afford. Commonly it has been said in recent years that a good guide is one - two months’ salary. Spend as much as you're comfortable with but have regard for the fact that your partner will be wearing it for the rest of their life. Given that we are manufacturing jewellers we can work to your budget and will make sure you get the best diamond ring possible for a competitive price.
CAN I GET MY RING ENGRAVED?
Yes you can. Just tell us what you’d like. Please note though, that if your item is engraved it cannot be returned.
DO YOU MAKE WEDDING BANDS THAT MATCH THE ENGAGEMENT RING?
Yes we do. Because we are designing and manufacturing jewellers, we can make wedding bands customized to engagement rings.
HOW CAN I TRUST YOU?
Our owners have been in business since 1899 and have built a strong reputation with customers and suppliers. We are not an internet only business. We have a bricks and mortar store and a workshop that has been in operation since 1899. We are here to stay and take every precaution to give the utmost confidence in our jewellery. CAN YOU MAKE A RING TO FIT MY BUDGET?
Yes we certainly can. If you have a higher or lower budget we can work with you to find the best possible diamond within your budget.
HOW DO I FIND MY GIRLFRIENDS RING SIZE WITHOUT GIVING AWAY THE SURPRISE?
If you are really wanting to surprise her here’s one option:
Find a costume ring that you know fits on her ring finger. Then put it onto one of your fingers and work out where it stops on the finger.
IS IT SAFE TO USE MY CREDIT CARD AT PAYPAL?
Yes, all transactions through PayPal are processed using a secure online payment gateway that encrypts your card details in a secure host environment.
